biography
Ubaldo Bartolini, born in Montappone (Ascoli Piceno) in 1944, is one of the most significant figures of the artistic movement known as Anacronismo, alongside Carlo Maria Mariani, Alberto Abate, and Stefano Di Stasio. After moving to Macerata, Bartolini developed his career between the Marche region and Rome, distinguishing himself for an artistic path that evolved from early conceptual art experiences in the 1970s towards a visionary reinterpretation of the landscape. His debut took place in 1972 at the Arte Studio Gallery in Macerata, where he presented works marking the beginning of a research aimed at transforming the landscape from a realistic representation into an expression of inner and symbolic instances.
Bartolini was one of the founders of the movement dubbed Anacronismo by Maurizio Calvesi, also known as Pittura Colta or Ipermanierismo. His painting, influenced by classical masters such as the Carracci, Lorrain, and Poussain, stands out for its enigmatic and unsettling vision, moving beyond realism to embrace a more introspective and poetic dimension. His artistic activity, spanning over fifty years, has made him a reference point in the history of contemporary Italian art.
