biography
Salvador Dalí, born Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dalí i Domènech, was one of the most renowned artists of the 20th century, celebrated as a painter, sculptor, writer, photographer, and filmmaker. Born in Figueres, Catalonia, on May 11, 1904, Dalí grew up in a wealthy family and showed extraordinary artistic talent from an early age. His artistic training began at the San Fernando Academy in Madrid, where he was expelled shortly before graduation due to disciplinary issues. In the 1920s, Dalí became closely associated with the Surrealist movement, emerging as one of its leading figures thanks to iconic works such as 'The Persistence of Memory' and the famous short film 'Un Chien Andalou,' created with Luis Buñuel.
His life was marked by an eccentric and provocative personality, reflected both in his artworks and lifestyle. Dalí was also distinguished by his collaboration with his wife Gala, a central figure in his life and career. During World War II, he moved to the United States, where he rediscovered his Catholic faith, expressed in works such as 'The Madonna of Port-Lligat' and 'Corpus Hypercubus.' In his later years, his health declined, and the death of his wife in 1982 deeply affected him. He died in Figueres on January 23, 1989, at the age of 84, and was buried in the Dalí Theatre-Museum, which he himself designed.
