biography
Roberto Crippa was an Italian artist born in Monza on May 7, 1921, and died in Bresso on March 19, 1972. He graduated from the Brera Academy in 1947/1948, where he studied under Aldo Carpi, Carlo Carrà, and Achille Funi. Crippa began his artistic career in 1945 with a figurative style influenced by Cubism and later joined the Spatialist movement, collaborating with artists such as Lucio Fontana and signing the third Spatialist Manifesto in 1950. His work is marked by continuous experimentation, including important series like the "Spirali" and "Marilyn," reflecting influences from American Action Painting and Pop Art. He regularly exhibited at the Venice Biennale and Milan Triennale, as well as internationally in Japan, Spain, South America, the United States, and Europe. Alongside his artistic career, Crippa was passionate about aerobatic flying and represented Italy in the world championships of this discipline in 1972. He died in a plane crash the same year. His artistic output includes paintings, sculptures, and polymaterial works often exploring the relationship between form and space, making him a significant figure in 20th-century Italian art.
