biography
Philippe Artias, born in Feurs (France) in 1912 and deceased in Numana (Italy) in 2002, was a multifaceted artist, renowned as a painter, designer, and ceramist. A self-taught artist, Artias began painting in the 1930s, developing a personal style that placed him among the leading figures of the new figuration movement in the second half of the 20th century. His artistic education was enriched by encounters with masters such as Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso, with whom he maintained a friendship and intellectual exchange that deeply influenced his work.
Artias lived for many years in Italy, where he spent the last three decades of his life, forging a strong bond with the Marche region and, in particular, with the town of Numana, where he passed away. His oeuvre ranges from oil on canvas to watercolors, from drawings to mixed media, and includes a significant production of ceramics, demonstrating constant expressive research and great technical versatility. His creations have been exhibited in prestigious galleries, such as Galleria Gagliardi, where he showcased his works between 1996 and 1997.
Artias is remembered not only for his artistic talent but also for his sensitive and dreamy personality, which shines through in each of his creations.
Today, Philippe Artias is regarded as a prominent artist on the international scene, whose legacy is preserved in private and public collections, as well as in museums dedicated to his figure, such as the Museo Philippe Artias in Sacramora, Faenza.
