biography
Omar Galliani, born on October 30, 1954, in Montecchio Emilia, is one of the most significant Italian artists in contemporary art. After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, he pursued an academic career as a professor of Painting at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, where he has contributed to the education of new generations of artists. His artistic research focuses mainly on drawing, using charcoal and pencil, techniques that allow him to explore the duality of light and shadow and to create images that emerge from a dark background, taking on a symbolic and visionary quality. Galliani is known for his involvement, in the 1980s, in the Magico Primario and Anacronismo movements, which promoted a return to Italian figurative tradition, reinterpreted in a contemporary key. His works have been exhibited in prestigious international venues, including the Venice Biennale (1982, 1984, 1986), the São Paulo Biennial in Brazil, the Paris Biennale, and contemporary art museums in Japan. In 1979, he received the Faber Castell Award at the First International Drawing Triennial in Nuremberg. Among his most significant works are the third curtain of the Teatro Valli in Reggio Emilia (1991) and his participation in the exhibition “All Roads Lead to Rome” at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome (1995). His work “Ballerina” was acquired by the Italian Chamber of Deputies on the occasion of the XXII Rome Quadriennale (1996). Galliani has also exhibited in major galleries and museums across Europe, America, and Asia, consolidating his international reputation.
