biography
Marcello Muccini (Rome, February 5, 1926 – Rome, February 13, 1978) was a renowned Italian painter and a leading exponent of realism, active mainly in the second half of the 20th century. Born and based in Rome, Muccini distinguished himself for his artistic production focused on figurative and everyday themes, often depicted with a precise and detail-oriented painting technique. His works, mostly oil on canvas, range from still lifes to urban scenes, portraits, and landscapes, revealing a deep sensitivity for surrounding reality and a strong knowledge of Italian artistic tradition.
Muccini participated in several collective and solo exhibitions, collaborating with important Roman galleries such as La Barcaccia and Fidia. Among his most notable works are 'Notturno romano', 'Ballerina', 'Natura morta con oggetti', 'Donna sdraiata', and 'Ragazza con gatto', all examples of his ability to capture everyday atmospheres and moments with a realistic and poetic style. In 1945, he founded the GAS (Gruppo Arte Sociale), and later the Portonaccio Group, actively contributing to the postwar Roman art scene.
His figure remains a reference point for those studying 20th-century Italian realist painting.
