biography
Enrico Galassi was an Italian painter, architect, mosaicist, ceramist, and poet born in Ravenna in 1907 and died in Pisa in 1980. He began his artistic training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna, focusing especially on mosaic art. Galassi was a versatile artist who worked across multiple disciplines and techniques. His most productive period was in the 1930s, during which he exhibited at major events such as the II National Quadriennale of Rome with works like "La fruttiera" and "La casa." A close friend of Alberto Savinio, who described him as "one of the most brilliant adults" and a "Leonardesque man," Galassi was also an amateur architect, designing several houses in Versilia, including Savinio's residence.

His artistic output includes oil paintings on panel, mosaics, and ceramics, characterized by an abstract style influenced by contemporaries such as Filippo de Pisis, Carlo Carrà, and Gio Ponti. Despite his talent, his early affiliation with the Blackshirts led to a posthumous damnatio memoriae in his hometown, limiting his recognition. In 2020, a retrospective exhibition titled "Enrico Galassi: the outlaw artist" was held in Ravenna, helping to revive interest in his work and legacy.

Colasanti Auction House manages the appraisal and sale of his artworks, which are valued in the modern and contemporary art market. Galassi's legacy is now appreciated for its originality and multidisciplinary contribution to 20th-century Italian art.
