biography
Amerigo Bartoli Natinguerra was born in Terni on December 24, 1890, to parents of Marche origin. He moved to Rome in 1906 to study at the Academy of Fine Arts, where he was a pupil of Giulio Aristide Sartorio and graduated with honors in 1911. During his studies, he received a government scholarship that allowed him to further his artistic education in Florence and Turin. Bartoli Natinguerra was known for his paintings of vedute, landscapes, still lifes, and portraits, characterized by subdued tones and refined chromatic sensitivity. He participated early in major exhibitions such as the Roman Secession in 1916 and the Venice Biennale, where he won the prize for the painting "Gli amici al caffè" in 1930. He was also a member of the Valori Plastici group and contributed satirical drawings and caricatures to numerous Italian newspapers and magazines. His public works include frescoes for the National Bank of Labor in Rome and the Church of Saint John the Baptist in Tripoli. From 1938 to 1960, he taught painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, influencing new generations of artists. His artistic production is preserved in important public and private collections, and he is recognized as a significant figure in 20th-century Italian art.
