Console in carved, sculpted, gilded and lacquered wood
Rome, 17th century
Dimensions:
91x145.5x75 cm.shaped top paved in antique green marble, resting on four curved supports surmounted by cherubs sculpted in the round and connected by a central cross crowned by friezes, shell and lion mask. The front is richly decorated with scrolls, cartouches, acanthus leaves and phytomorphic motifs, with an oval reserve in the center depicting the profile of a Roman Emperor, a clear symbolic reference to the virtues of authority, continuity and magnificence, wears, defects, losses and restorations.
