biography
Piero Sadun was an Italian painter born in Siena on November 11, 1919. From a young age, he showed a strong artistic sensitivity, attending evening classes at the Siena Art Institute and the workshop of painter Umberto Giunti. Due to fascist racial laws, he was unable to complete his classical studies and prepared privately for his high school final exam. He then moved to Florence to study in Primo Conti's workshop but had to stop because of regime restrictions. Returning to Siena, he opened his own studio and became a prominent figure in the local art scene, painting frescoes between 1940 and 1941. During World War II, under the pseudonym T.Duna, he joined the partisan resistance after escaping deportation in 1943. In 1945, he moved to Rome, where he held his first solo exhibition in 1947. His career included exhibitions in New York and Milan, earning several awards. In 1966, he co-founded an artistic group in Galliera Editalia, which led to the creation of the magazine "Qui Arte Contemporanea" in Rome. He died in Siena in 1974 at the age of 55 after a long illness. In 2019, commemorative exhibitions were held in L'Aquila and Siena for the centenary of his birth.
