biography
Paolo Buffa was a renowned Milanese architect and designer, born in 1903 and passed away in 1970. He graduated in architecture from the Politecnico di Milano in 1927 and began his career collaborating with prominent figures such as Gio Ponti and Lancia, from whom he drew inspiration for his distinctive style. In 1928, he founded a design studio with Cassi Ramelli, creating a creative partnership that deeply influenced 20th-century Italian design. Buffa was especially known for designing furniture and interiors characterized by a synthetic elegance and a refined balance between neoclassicism, Art Deco, and modernism. His works, crafted from precious materials like Cuban mahogany, rosewood, and ebony, were mainly destined for Milan's wealthy bourgeoisie and exhibited at various Triennials.

Throughout his extensive career, Buffa collaborated with skilled cabinetmakers such as Mario Quarti and with prominent companies like Cassina, contributing to the evolution of Italian industrial design. His production ranges from neoclassical furniture with intricate decorations to pieces from the 1960s featuring essential and pure lines, demonstrating a clear stylistic evolution towards sober and refined modernity. Besides furniture design, he also worked on housing, office, and naval interiors, confirming his versatility and multidisciplinary talent.

Paolo Buffa's works are highly sought after in the antiques and design market today, valued for their craftsmanship quality and attention to detail. The auction house Colasanti has frequently featured his pieces, highlighting the historical and artistic significance of his contribution to 20th-century Italian design.
