biography
Massimo Kaufmann is an Italian painter born in Milan in 1963, renowned for his work in contemporary abstract painting. Active since the late 1980s, Kaufmann established himself as a prominent figure in the Milanese art scene of the 1990s, distinguished by his ability to reinterpret urban and natural landscapes through a rich chromatic language and a dense dotted texture. His works often feature a slow, meditative application of color on horizontally laid canvases, reflecting a creative process that integrates temporal elements and meticulous detail, comparable to the musical execution of a mantra.
Kaufmann lives and works between Milan and New York, cities that have significantly influenced his artistic production, as evidenced by his large canvases inspired by views from his New York studio. His works have been exhibited in major museums, including Bologna's MAMbo, which has acquired some of his paintings for its permanent collection. Beyond his artistic practice, Kaufmann has contributed to cultural discourse with numerous essays and articles on contemporary art and has taught at the Academies of Bergamo, Brescia, and since 2010 at Milan's Brera Academy, where he conducts seminars on contemporary art.
His production ranges from oil on canvas to mixed media on paper, always maintaining a strong abstract character and deep chromatic research. Massimo Kaufmann stands as a key reference in contemporary Italian abstract painting, with an artistic path that combines technical rigor and poetic sensitivity.
