biography
Luigi Surdi was an Italian painter born in Naples in 1897 and died in Rome in 1956. He studied at the Institute of Art in Naples and began exhibiting his works in 1921 at the National Art Exhibition of the Grigio-verdi in Naples. Surdi participated in several editions of the Venice Biennale between 1924 and 1942, presenting significant works that established his reputation in the Italian art scene. He was also present at all editions of the National Quadriennial Art Exhibition in Rome from 1931 to 1959/1960, as well as exhibitions such as Art in the Life of Southern Italy in 1953 and shows organized by the Lazio Artists' Syndicate. His artistic production includes urban and natural landscapes, with a particular focus on views of Rome and the Roman countryside, mainly executed in oil on canvas or board.
