biography
Cristiano Pintaldi, born in Rome in 1970, is a contemporary artist who lives and works in the Italian capital. Raised in a family of advertising professionals passionate about art, Pintaldi developed an early interest in visual culture and mass communication. After studying at the Liceo Artistico in Rome, he began his career at the historic 2RC gallery, working closely with prominent figures such as Simona Rossi and Luigi Scialanga, and later collaborating with gallerist Paolo Sprovieri.
Cristiano Pintaldi’s artistic research focuses on the pictorial translation of television and digital images, using the pixel as a fundamental element. Since 1991, the artist has adopted a palette limited to the primary colors (red, green, blue) on a black background, arranging them according to the logic of the pixels that compose images on screens. Pintaldi paints in layers with an airbrush, creating works that deconstruct subjects drawn from popular culture, cartoons, science fiction films, and icons of collective memory, such as the alien, UFO, lightning, the Pope, and the mask.
The works of Cristiano Pintaldi have been exhibited in major Italian museums, including MAXXI, MACRO, and the Galleria Nazionale in Rome, and are present in numerous public and private collections. Among his most significant solo exhibitions is “Lucid Dreams,” curated by Achille Bonito Oliva and included in the official program of collateral events at the 54th Venice Biennale[3]. Pintaldi has received awards such as the Premio del Golfo (La Spezia Biennale) and the Premio Bovisa (Milan) in 2000.
