biography

Cartier, fondata a Parigi nel 1847 da Louis-François Cartier, nasce come un piccolo laboratorio di gioielleria nel quartiere di Montreuil. Grazie all’abilità del fondatore e alla sua sensibilità per le nuove tendenze artistiche, la Maison si impose rapidamente tra l’élite parigina. Il vero salto avvenne però con il figlio Alfred, che trasformò l’atelier familiare in un’impresa internazionale, e soprattutto con i tre celebri nipoti Louis, Pierre e Jacques Cartier, ognuno responsabile dell’espansione in Europa, America e Asia.

Louis, mente creativa della maison, introdusse iconici modelli di orologeria come il Santos e il Tank, oltre a perfezionare l’uso del platino, rendendolo un materiale principe dell’alta gioielleria. Jacques esplorò l’Oriente alla ricerca di pietre preziose rare, mentre Pierre consolidò la presenza negli Stati Uniti, facendo di Cartier la gioielleria prediletta da magnati, star e case reali.

Definita da Edoardo VII “il re dei gioiellieri e il gioielliere dei re”, Cartier ha creato pezzi entrati nella storia, dalla Panthère ai diademi reali, diventando simbolo di lusso, eleganza e innovazione. Ancora oggi la Maison rappresenta uno dei nomi più prestigiosi al mondo, capace di coniugare tradizione artigianale e creatività contemporanea.
