biography
Camillo Innocenti was a prominent Italian painter born in Rome in 1871, son of the architect Augusto Innocenti. After completing classical studies, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and devoted himself to painting, initially influenced by 19th-century Italian artists such as Domenico Morelli and Antonio Mancini. Innocenti undertook numerous study trips across Europe, including Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, England, and a stay in Paris from 1901 to 1903, which enriched his artistic style. Upon returning to Italy, he embraced Divisionism and joined the group known as the XXV of the Roman countryside, focusing on landscapes from Abruzzo and Sardinia. He was a member of the National Academy of San Luca and actively participated in the Roman Secession, also working as a set designer in cinema during the post-World War I period. In 1925, he directed the School of Fine Arts in Cairo, returning to Italy at the outbreak of World War II. Despite early success, he was later forgotten by the public and critics, dying in poverty in 1961.
