biography
Attilio Steffanoni, born in Bergamo on September 22, 1938, and passed away in the same city in 2025, was one of the most significant Italian painters and printmakers of the 20th century. Born into a renowned family of art restorers, antiquarians, and collectors, Steffanoni was immersed in the world of art from an early age, inheriting a deep connection to the artistic traditions of Bergamo. He trained at the School of Painting and the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo, where he later taught, leaving a lasting impact on the local artistic community.
Steffanoni’s artistic production spanned painting and printmaking, with works created mainly in mixed media, tempera, pastel, watercolor, ink, and pencil on paper, as well as large-format oil paintings on canvas. Steffanoni skillfully combined Italian artistic tradition with a modern sensibility, exploring themes such as landscape, memory, nature, and the transformation of the territory. His work has been recognized by experts and critics for its technical quality and expressive depth.
