biography

Andy Warhol, born Andrew Warhola, was born in Pittsburgh on August 6, 1928, and died in New York on February 22, 1987. Son of Slovak immigrants, Warhol was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century and a central figure in the Pop Art movement. From an early age, he showed a strong artistic vocation, studying advertising art at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh. After graduating in 1949, he moved to New York, where he worked as a commercial graphic artist for prestigious magazines such as Vogue and Glamour. In the 1960s, he founded the Factory, his famous studio-atelier that became a reference point for artists, musicians, and underground celebrities. Warhol distinguished himself for his ability to transform consumer goods and popular icons into works of art, exploring new media and collaborations. Among his most famous works are the silkscreens of Marilyn Monroe, Campbell’s Soup, and the Last Supper series. He was also a film director, film and television producer, photographer, and actor. He died at the age of 58 in New York leaving behind an immense and lasting artistic legacy.
