Alessio Ancillai

Alessio Ancillai, born in Rome in 1973, is a contemporary artist who lives and works in his hometown. After studying medicine and surgery with experience in psychiatry, he began his artistic career in 2000. He is the founder and member of the bMotion Collective, dedicated to designing visual and sound installations, experimenting with a wide range of expressive media including painting, sculpture, light, sound, lettering, and video. He is recognized as a pioneer in the use of LED technology in contemporary art. His artistic research develops along two main lines: one social, investigating contemporary working conditions and the lack of workplace safety, and one aesthetic, exploring the nature of the pictorial image through the use of light as a medium. His works are included in private and institutional collections, and he has also created public commissions. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with prominent gallerists and curators such as Pio Monti, Achille Bonito Oliva, and Bruno Corà, participating in numerous solo and group exhibitions. His artistic practice is characterized by an interdisciplinary and activist approach, often intervening in alternative spaces with socially engaged projects. Ancillai deeply reflects on the role of art and the human capacity to imagine and create, with particular attention to the line as a fundamental element of artistic and human expression.
